Problem
Large areas of Kafr El-Sheikh suffer from soil salinity and shallow groundwater. Farmers irrigate by experience, sometimes wasting water and sometimes not leaching enough salt, and yields fall.
Solution
Field stations measuring soil salinity and moisture, groundwater depth and salinity, plus irrigation and drainage water, feed models that tell the farmer when to irrigate, how much to leach and when to run drainage. Advice reaches the farmer's phone. Built on the results of project KU6 at the Faculty farm.
Business model
A seasonal per-feddan subscription covering monitoring and advice, plus station installation for larger farms and cooperatives.
